Back to School

Posted on Monday, July 23, 2018
Back to school is just around the corner - are you ready? We know we are!

We wanted to highlight some quick back to school topics briefly so you can get on and about your final busy summer days!

Are your children attending a new school this year? Maybe an offender has moved into your school's district over the summer and you didn't know about it? (Note: Sign up for FREE notifications for your home AND school at our site below and never miss an offender!) Have you checked our site to see who lives near your children's school and the walkways they may encounter? Not all states have laws in regards to where an offender can live - meaning how far they can live from your child's school. Make sure to visit Family Watchdog and see if there are any new offenders in your child's school area that you are unaware of!

We don't know if you noticed or not, but now on Family Watchdog, you can search by your school's name! When visiting our site, click the small tab that says "search by school". You can search by your zip code or by City/State. Your search will take you to a new page with all the schools in the area you provided us with. Viola! It's that simple!

Did you know that all school officials and caregivers are Mandatory Reporters for Child abuse? Just like Doctors and Nurses, they are required by law to report any form of abuse they think has/is occurring to a child.
They should not be the only ones that are required to report. If you see something off about a child - maybe they avoid eye contact when being spoken to or steal other children's lunches - you can and should be their voice. Never second guess and almost always go with your gut. You never know the child that cannot speak about a situation at home. Smaller children act out when playing often. Know the signs and get familiar with child abuse! Each week 60.000 children in the United States are reported abused and neglected. Learn the signs of child abuse and take a stand and make yourself a mandatory reporter!

With a new school year, we want you to know the ins and outs of bullying.
We want YOU to help take a stand against bullying. STOP letting your children be bullies. STOP letting your children BE bullied. STOP bullying when you see it. I know, it's a large step to take, but together we can help put bullying to an end.

What is Bullying?
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.

How can you help STOP BULLYING?
When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior they send the message that it is not acceptable. Research shows this can stop bullying behavior over time. There are simple steps adults can take to stop bullying on the spot and keep kids safe.
All kids involved in bullying - whether they are bullied, bully others, or see bullying - can be affected. It is important to support all kids involved to make sure the bullying doesn't continue and effects can be minimized. Be supporting if your child is being bullied. Get involved with the other child/parent/school to learn where this behavior is coming from.

We hope you have enjoyed your summer with your children. We look forward to a safe and productive school year!
